This week we're looking at why private equity is becoming more interested in the fitness industry.
For years, the biggest challenge was capital intensity. But now, investors are seeing a powerful combination of 7% to 10% organic growth, younger consumers prioritizing wellness, and GLP-1 drugs creating a new tailwind.
That’s creating more opportunities for consolidation across the industry, from high-end operators like Bay Club to larger systems like EOS, VASA, Crunch, and Planet Fitness.
For independent owners, the opportunity is there—but differentiation is critical.
COVID removed a huge amount of excess supply, and the strongest operators have only gotten stronger. The gyms thriving today aren't simply selling access to treadmills and weights. They're delivering a broader wellness ecosystem built around fitness, recovery, personalization, and customization.
And that opportunity could get even bigger.
If AI continues to free up people's time, consumers may have more time to focus on their health. Because no matter how advanced AI becomes, it still can't get you out of your chair and make you active.
Until next week—Go HALO!
