What's the difference between advertising and Public Relations?
Nancy Trent breaks it down like this: "When you flip through a magazine and see an ad, or a digital ad pops up on your screen, it's obvious that someone paid for that space."
On the other hand, "When you see someone being interviewed on a show like Good Morning America, no money has changed hands." Nancy underscores this distinction in today's media landscape, where the distinction between paid and unpaid content can often be unclear.
"Publicity," Nancy emphasizes, "tends to be a more cost-effective option since it doesn't involve paying for ad space." She highlights another important point: "There's growing skepticism towards ads. When we spot an ad, we recognize it as such, and unless it's from a brand we already trust, it can be hard to sway our opinion."
"Lastly," Nancy adds, "there's the power of buzz. When articles start appearing and celebrities or athletes begin endorsing a brand, it creates a ripple effect that gets everyone talking."
