A concussion is when the brain moves inside the skull.

It can happen when you’re playing sports, in an accident, if you fell and hit your head, etc.

They can also cause short-term issues like headaches, dizziness, trouble concentrating, or feeling sleepy. Longer term issues may include vision and memory problems, changes in mood, or changes in thinking and reasoning skills. A concussion is a trauma to the brain, and it’s serious.

The injury may range in severity from a brief loss of consciousness to minor damage that causes no immediate symptoms. It’s not a “break” in the skull, but rather a stretching or tearing of the brain inside the skull. It is therefore sometimes called a “brain contusion” or a “brain bruise”

These injuries are silent killers and need to be followed very, very closely since someone suffering from one may seem fine, but really are not.
